I hate to say it, but I had a nightmarish experience trying to use my
Olympus C-3030Z on my Dad's 8500 (OS 9.1) when my Pismo died. The
Olympus, like Amber's, just *worked* under OS X. It has a Belkin USB
card that I put in, but never installed the software for (it was cheap
and I was ordering one for a Beige G3 that *needed* it.) Installing
the USB support wasn't bad and took about 15-20 between downloading,
installing and rebooting. I then realized had lost my Olympus CDs and
proceeded to check the Olympus site for software. I found no love with
them, under their Mac section, all they have to say something to the
effect that the camera just works with OS X. So, I tore the desk apart
until I found the CD. I installed the Olympus Camedia software that I
needed and plugged the camera in. Nothing. Tried to force Camedia to
see the camera. Nothing. ASP said something like
"OlympusC3030Zblahblah" for the USB card, so the Mac knew it was there
and knew what it was. Then it dawned on me that the iMac at home has
OS X. Kicking myself for wasting 3 hours with the 8500, I went home,
plugged the camera into the iMac and it worked.

I love OS X :-)
