I have a 40G deskstar on my cube and a 40G travelstar on my
Ti-book. I purchased both from OWC--the deskstar in 2001 and the
travelstar last summer. Both cracked up in the first 3-4 days. The
TiBook drive in particular made unbelievably horrible, grating
sounds. Shipped them both back to OWC and got replacements
immediately. Both replacements work fine. They are really, really
quiet. I have no idea how they compare with other drives however.
Sounds like the class action suit might be based in fact, but
I can't see any breach of warranty nor can I figure out what the
measure of damages would be. My drive crash cost me a ton of time,
but only because of other compounding matters.
