i'd hesitate to call it 'nasty', honestly. after all, nothing is set in 
stone until the product ships.

many remember the 500MHz fiasco with the PowerMac towers. Apple shipped 
the 500MHz G4's and subsequently had to rev them down to 450MHz, after 
they'd already shipped the 500MHz.

there's two ways of going about some problems:
"Ship! Ship! We'll iron out the bugs after people have them in their 
hands..."

or

"Oh crap, the 2x burner isn't up to snuff. Let's go back to 1x and work 
on the 2x some more."

Which would you prefer?
