However, with the PowerBooks, they didn't actually update the line - they added to it. It's a lot like the 14" iBook release in January 2002, or the 17" iMac in July 2002. The 14" iBook was released just two months after the 600 MHz iBook (from November 2001), but the only difference was the screen size and slightly longer battery life. Similarly, the 17" iMac only changed the screen size. The 17" and 12" PowerBooks made a few changes other than just screen size - namely the addition of FireWire 800, a new case material, and DDR. However, they still only added to the line, they didn't change any existing products. And the new products aren't any faster, they use the same processor speeds and comparable (though not equal) graphics cards. In all those cases, though, they did lower the prices of the other models. The 1 GHz 15" PowerBook went down $200. The 12", 500 MHz iBook went down by $100 in early 2002.
