It's easy to remove anything from the dock, just click, drag it up and
release, giving you a nifty little poof. However the update didn't add
anything back to my dock.

My question Ryan. Since the items in the Dock are actually just aliases, had
you also removed the original applications from your drive altogether? I ask
because I had removed the Mail and Address Book icons from my Dock, but I
did not remove the applications. So I'm wondering, if you had completely
removed these Apps, then did it reinstall the Apps on your drive and hence
add their icons back to the dock?
