Not from personal experience (fortunately, none so far), but from reports on this list, I would tend to think that the power converter (the "brick" or "yo-yo" depending on type) is NOT the problem, but rather the PMU (power management unit) or other internal part.

PowerBook G3 Series (M4753)
      1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
      2. Simultaneously press Shift-Fn (function)-Ctrl (control)-Power.
      3. Wait 5 seconds.
      4. Press the Power button to restart the PowerBook computer.

It seems worth a try!
