I posted about this problem a few days ago but there's been no feedback; maybe my post was too long. I'll rephrase it briefer.
I have a 12" PB with a wifi card. The PB has a static IP address. Occasionally I find that when using the ethernet connection the PB is no longer able to transmit or receive across the network - no browsing, no email, no ping, even to devices within my own local suib-net. This happens intermittently, and when it does happen it's only after a while - an hour of use? - and some days never.
The network configuration looks OK, but running this command:
'ipconfig getifaddr en0' in a terminal window gets this response:
'get if addr en0 failed, (os/kern) failure'
Has anyone else ever seen this? Does anyone have any idea what might be causing it?
I'm not sure. I get the same response for my ethernet port on this system at home (the port isn't connected to anything) and the ip address on an ethernet -connected system at work.
What is the wifi card's status at this point?
Does it come back without any intervention? (if so, I'd suspect intermittent hardware failure, since it's a fixed IP address) It could be a bad cable, a bad port on your router/switch/hub or a bad ethernet port on the PB
Perhaps something else is coming onto the network with the same fixed IP address and kicking yours off the network. I don't know what ipconfig would report in that case.
