Richard, there are a hundred different drives that will work, not just 
the Sony mechanism you suggested. The point I'm trying to make is given 
all the possible choices, I'd suggest sourcing a mechanism which will 
allow one to use the Apple faceplate so as to avoid the cobbled-together 
look one gets when using a generic face. Plus Matsushita mechanisms are 
by many accounts quite the equal (and some say the better) of Sony-made 
opticals.

Of course I gave lots of extraneous information, I do apologize if I 
wasn't as economical with my words as I might have been. Sadly I'm rather 
a blabber-finger sometimes. <G>

BTW, Richard's reply unnecessarily quoted my entire post complete with 
footers and all, as well as his own earlier post. While minimizing 
bandwidth usage isn't quite as critical as it once was, it's considered 
polite netiquette to trim unneccessary quotage when posting such a 
response.
