Have just set up a little three computer network in the house... picked up a D-Link router and a ton of cable. Although nothing was easy (except running cable) in the set up, i got it working. Found that the G3 Lombard was losing the connection every few minutes and nothing i would do seemed to reconnect other then rebooting (and sometimes that didn't work).... All my settings were right, etc etc... As a last resort i put a tiny bit of pressure on the ethernet cable plug at the rear of the machine... That was the problem... the connection could be moved and my router lights would come on and go off....A tiny cardboard shim seems to help, but still lose the connection once and awhile... Is having the actual port replaced a huge job ? Or is this anything anyone has run into?

I had the same problem with my Lombard. Finally got tired of replacing the shims when the would fall out or get too worn, and said "what the heck, if it's not working now, who cares if I break it worse" and went poking around. Turned out there are two metal "tabs" on the inside of the port itself, one on the left and one on the right. I slipped an exacto knife underneath and was able to bend them both slightly outward. Bingo! I haven't had an accidental disconnect in the two months since.

Just a note, some cables worked reasonably well before this fix, but I had purchased a 25 ft cable from RadioShack that wouldn't keep a connection at all. So I'm sure some cables have larger connectors then others.

I hope someone uses this fix and that it works, because I feel bad that I've taken so much good advise from this list and have contributed nothing.
