Background: Booted and installed from the Panther distribution disks. Did not erase or reformat the drive, don't know if drivers were updated. Journaling off. ~60GB drive half full. Only one language selected.
Indexing: Attempts to index the whole drive fail after a day or so of churning. Knew it would take some time, but this is absurd. Not possible to reattempt indexing without trashing files in Libraries/Indexes/findbycontent. Have successfully indexed specific directories. Have repaired permissions (iteratively), checked other maintenance routines, switched users, disk utility, etc.
Finding: Works, but slow on the selected directories. I get the impression that it worked faster and with better hits under 9.2.2. Is the index automatically updated, or do I need to do this periodically?
Do I need to backup and wipe the drive and start from scratch? Am waiting for the latest disk warrior.
