Why would you ever want to install Linux on a Mac when OS X is the best personal Unix ever?

Has anyone tried installing Yellow Dog Linux on a G3 Pismo? I am strongly considering installing it, but I want to know how others like it. Also, is there a version of iTunes or a way to sync up an iPod on YDL?
Thanks.
