I don't specifically know the internals for a clamshell iBook, but for all
Wallstreet, Lombard and Pismo, when that kind of problem occurs, it is
usually a loose solder on the sound AC card. If you're handy with a solder
iron, that is usually a quick fix.
Had/have the same problem. Fixed it once and now it is broken loose again.
The power plug sits on a very small separate board (an inch or so square).
You have to rather completely dismantle the machine to get at it. Once you
get it apart, it is an easy fix if you have a small soldering iron. I have
the .pdf on how to take it apart. Contact me off-list if you want me to
sent it to you (it is a 1.4mb file).
