I agree that the original square white power adapters were poorly designed, but they 
seem to have improved them.  I had one die (no light, but the wire going to the iBook 
would get warm, even when not connected to the iBook, indicating a short) back in 
January, and since my iBook (600MHz) is under AppleCare, I called, explained the 
situation, including the troubleshooting I had done (testing with a known-good power 
adapter, as well as reporting the wire getting warm), and he agreed that it was bad 
and sent me a new one, asking me to return the old one with the prepaid shipping label 
that came with the new one.

This one appears on the outside to be better designed, as it has stress-relief where 
the wire going to the iBook comes out of the adapter, where the original one did not.  
Also, the stress-relief on the plug that connects into the iBook seems a liitle 
beefier.  The adapter also doesn't seem to get quite as warm as the original one used 
to.
