They have replaced the logic board, this is why the serial # does not show up.

BTW. I have two 256 MB dimms taken from my other laptop (an Aluminium 15"): will thay work in the 14" G4 iBook?
They physically fit but I don't want to create troubles.
o Don't know if it applies to iBook, but for the PowerBook G3, if you would update the firmware to a newer version, you would lose the serial number which is apparently stored in some section of the firmware...
