Hello,

I don't want to give up my G3 wallstreet (running on OS 9.1 or 9.2.) so I
need a little help. I'm moving in with my partner and he has a PC and I
have my Mac. There is no DSL in the area and so we are going to go for
cable Modem access. But in order to share a single modem and save $ we
apparently have to get a router (The cable company offers no support and
would rather charge us for two separate connections). Has anyone done this
with a PC and an aging Mac? Is it possible? How does one do it? Tools?
Advice? Router recommendations? Help! Please! I don't want to cave to
pressure and give up my Mac.

Not a problem. I'm have 4 Macs and 4 peecees connected to a cable modem and all the machines have internet access. Not all the machines can see each other, but I just don't need that capability right now.
I have an RCA cable modem (comcast) plugged into a Linksys, 1-port router running to 3 Linksys 5-port switches. A multi-port router might seem a better choice, but with my cabling options, the 1-port was best.
The machines on the network are:
a 6400/200 (8.6), an iMac (9.1), a Wallstreet (9.2.2), a B&W (10.3.4), a w2k server, a w2k workstation, a winme notebook and a win98 desktop.
Setup is pretty easy... using DHCP is the easiest, tho' I prefer to use static IP addresses.

If you need more information, feel free to email me or just post to the list or... for a hefty service charge (plus parts, of course) I could come over and set it all up for ya! ;->
