BTW just a FWIW (For Whatever It's Worth) comment. You can pick up a
3/4-port Ethernet hub for $15 or less. That makes networking even two
computers easier. This is coming from a guy who used a crossover
cable for years to connect even to Performas. But with the price of
hubs so low these days, it's really better to go that way IMHO.

--Amen!

I have a 7200/90 that i've networked to my G4 tower. First thing i did was install the highest operating system the 7200 would take- 9.1
Then I got rid of things that habitually annoyed me, including the web sever extension (I mean, its a 10Base-T, for god's sake. Its not going to be my sever machine!) Then, i started up file sharing-- which takes a long time. If i recall properly, it was a hassle, but I could connect either way.
One more thing, though if you've gotten this far, its probably fine -- make sure the appletalk extension has your ethernet port picked. Sometimes if its powered off/unplugged for a long time, it'll pick the most bizarre option, probably just to be funny. (what a sense of humor the 7200 has...) And make sure your appletalk settings are otherwise together.

I used my 7200 as a print server so i could still use my stylewriter with my G3 via the printer port this way. (mac os X likes to disavow any knowledge of the printer and modem ports, a cause of great pain, but not networked printers). Bob is right in having a hub though, that was the magic ingredient for this.

OT update-- i'm in the process of buying an iBook... I don't know the seller, so hopefully its going to be legitimate. I can't wait to own a gbook again. Cross your fingers for me!
