At my previous job I managed to get my way and get an TiBook 550 and I was both impressed and happy with it. I subsequently changed jobs to another non-Mac company and have yet again managed to get a Mac as my computer, an AlBook 1GHz.
I now have first hand experience and therefore a few comments in case anyone is interested or has any comments.
The AlBook gets as hot as the TiBook :o(
The ports on the AlBook are placed in the stupidest of places, where I have my graphics tablet, the wires for network, my iPod etc. all lie across my tablet... :o(
The screen suffers from the same keyboard imprint :o(
The casing is WAY more sensitive to scrapes and discolouring that the TiBook, and I am really careful with it. :o(
The CD/DVD drive is very brutal when ejecting discs and has even gotten stuck a few times. :o(
Obvious good points are that the screen is better and of course the machine is faster, but on the whole I think the TiBook was a better Mac.
