I've bought a 1GB chip from NewEgg.com for $202.50 USD (shipping
included),
btw. I put it in and it has been working fine since then. Crucial
should be
fine as well. I don't know what is wrong with their chips, though. They
should work if they are really the specs that you mention above. One
thing,
though, are they advertised for PowerBooks? The full specs to the one I
bought can be found here:

I have bought RAM from Crucial before because I know I'm getting the
right stuff. However, your quote of $202.50 for 1GB of RAM convinced
me to check out NewEgg. How do you know what you need to order from
their site? (Maybe I'm not even looking at the same product.) I'm not
a techie, so I don't know what I need. Maybe I just missed it on their
website. Crucial walks you easily through the process. I have a 17"
1.5 GHz PowerBook with the original 512 MB DDR SDRAM (according to
"About this Mac"). I am planning to get at least one 1GB stick for
now, but if it's $202, I might get the two at once. Help!
If you rebuild the above link, that should take you directly to the product
page. From there, you can add it to your cart and checkout. You might have
to register with them. When I checked before sending the link, the price was
down to $196 with $0.99 shipping.
My question is, how would I have known (other than from this list) that this RAM was for my particular PowerBook? There's nothing on that page telling me that this works in the 17" 1.5 GHz PB. I'm hearing everyone else's horror stories, from those of you that know a LOT more about computers than I do, so if you guys have room for error, then I REALLY have room for error.
Also, I've never heard of Kingmax memory. Again, I'm not a techie. Four years ago everyone was saying how great Crucial was, so I ordered from them, popped the RAM into my iMac, and never ever had a problem. But I don't see the name "Kingmax" floating around on this list. I'm leery of loosing $400 on some technicality that they might not restock some RAM because I ordered the wrong one, but I'm also concerned about messing up my PB because I put the wrong RAM in it.
