Select one of your .doc documents. Don't open it. Select get info from the file menu. Under the option for Open with:, select Microsoft Word. Below that you should see this option: Use this application to open all documents like this. Right below that you should see a button called Change All. Click that button and it will change Microsoft Word to the default application.
