Dear John, None of these suggestions got me into my CD to restore 8.6

I performed this and it was successful...false hope and > the if message still appears after you reset PRAM, reset the Open Firmware > settings: so I did > 1-4 and this was successful also but the the happy mac defaulted to OS9.2 more dashed hopes and the same Mac opens in 9.2. resulted with the 2 force boot operations you suggested. frustration has set in and I am looking for the ebay return policy... btw my CD drive...starts to whirl makes a hmmm "sqeak" (I sound like I am at my car repair shop) and then stops whirling...hoping I don't have to replace the cd dvd drive...
