I am contemplating doing the same with my Pismo, I need to decide what
burner to go with they have an internal slot load that supposed to be native
to the newer powerbooks. Or should I go with an external pioneer in a
firewire case? My Pismo has a G4 500 upgrade with 1 gig of ram and a 60 gig
drive. How do you think my combo would do? Thanks, Kevin

iDVD doesn't support burning to external DVD-R drives, but there is a
patch. I've used it successfully on a G4 Cube with an external firewire
burner.

That said, I think the encoding will take a quite a bit longer on a
Pismo G3 than on any G4. I'm not sure how well iMovie runs on a G3, so
you'll have to play with it.

AFAIK, iDVD won't run on a non-G4 system because it relies on Altivec,
only
present in the G4, to perform the encoding.
