isince i could not install it w/out booting, i installed it booting from the os 9 cd.

Are you installing it as Classic on OS X? If so, just insert your disk and install. Don't try to copy it from the disk.

After you install OS 9, you need to go to your prefs in OS X and choose your OS 9 system folder for Classic....


I'm not sure how you could have possibly erased an operating system that you are running from...
