This is a tricky operation and any advise is welcome from someone who has done this before. First question I have is: where do I find a 40Gb disk and which one should I get?
thanks, Boudie

I have found the USB controller on the 12" G4 (I have the 1GHz model) to be picky. It works great with most of my USB peripherals, but with an external hard drive is would write at full speed, but freeze and eventually lock the entire machine if I tried to read.
I replaced that USB2.0 case with a combo USB 2.0/FireWire case that one works fine through both interfaces.
The moral of the story is that at least my 12" PB is picky about what goes into the USB port. Why not connect the two computers with an ethernet crossover cable, or if the 1400 has no ethernet card, moce the files to the iMac and then connect the iMac and 12" G4 with an ethernet crossover cable. Probably your easiest bet.

<http://www.mail-archive.com/g-books%40mail.maclaunch.com/>My Dad just got a new 12" G4 Aluminum powerbook and is having problems transferring data from his powerbook 1400. He has been using a Lexar USB card reader to move data from the 1400 to his iMac (OS 8.1 and 9.2.2 respectively). However when he plugs the card reader into the G4 'book it doesn't work. I'm suspecting that the particular card reader isn't supported in OSX. Has anyone got any other suggestions? Any recommendations on card readers known to work with OSX?
Thanks
