These are disk images...not harmful at all. When you are done with it just eject it and it's gone! Also you can delete the original file that you downloaded, or you can keep it in storage somewhere in case you need to re-install some time later. Then just double click it and it'll make that same disk image again. So, no, there is no reason to keep them, they're just so you can install the software from a compressed file.
