Sooooo, that means that the great deal I just got on E-bay for a new Belkin PCICMA card and
router that is listed at the Belkin site as working with OS 10.2.6 and airport 3.0.4, will just be going back on E-bay?

I've not used this card or chip set but multiple sources, including the cards website, indictate they work with the Apple Airport software directly, no additional driver required.
The older 802.11b cards with the Prism chip set did work with Airport in OS 8/9 but not X. The 802.11g cards using the Broadcom Chipset (that's the one I couldn't remember) work with Apple Airport software.

There are several that use a certain chip set (can't recall the name off hand) that works directly with Airport software. IMO this is the way to go as it makes it more compatible. I was looking at using the Sonnet Aria:
