My computer always runs very hot so maybe it is the computer. I have it on an ergonomic stand that props it up and gives it air underneat. It is plugged in to a new APC Surge Protector w/Battery Backup so I don't think that is it. If I just unplug the adapter from the computer and then plug it back in that does not work. I actually have to unplug the outlet from the surge protector and then plug it back in to get the power flowing again. I've learned to live with it, but if there was a fix I would go for it. If I have to leave my computer for a little while it is frustrating to find it shut down sometimes when I come back to it.
Thank you.
Val

I have a PowerBook G4 and several times a day the adapter (that came with the computer) will suddenly stop giving power. I don't usually notice it till I get a message that the battery is about to run out. I have to unplug it and then plug it back in and everything is fine. It has been doing this for a long time. It is very annoying and if I'm not using it when the message comes up the computer will go dead.

Any ideas on what can be done about this? Do I need a new power adapter or is something else going on?

I know that the DC plug that plugs into my iBook sometimes comes a little loose, the light on the plug goes out and the computer switches to battery power. I just get used to looking for the light.

If this isn't the case, ie the it's the plug in the wall that you have to plug back in and it is secure then I'd say your power supply is failing. Power supplies have internal power protection that shuts it off if it overloads in some way. While this could be the laptop you would likely have an indication it was the problem because the computer would be getting hot.
