I would say that the noise coming out of your iPod is probably the hard
drive. That's the only component that has moving parts in the iPod.

As for your 2nd question, I don't know how you can protect a "jump drive".
I'm assuming that by "jump drive", you mean some kind of USB flash memory
thingy?
