I have a problem with my wife's "new" TiBook 400MHz
and I'm going crazy...

We have ADSL and everything works fine with my G4
QuickSilver, but her TiBook (X.3.9) will not receive a
valid IP address, 169.smoething...

I have run permissions repair and all, no difference.

The subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 which is something I
recognise from previous instances with this problems
with other Macs.

I literally take the Ethernet cable from the QuickSilver,
plug it in the back of the TiBook, nothing, and then putting
it back into the QS, everything works straight away.

I have restarted, fiddled, restarted, switched off the IPv6
which I read somewhere could help, but nothing works.

Any ideas ???

Also, why can one not set the subnet mask manually while
keeping DHCP with automatic IP address assignment ???

Larry
