I'm contemplating doing something about the blown L2 cache on my Lombard 400. I might go for the G4 upgrade and Panther but there are a few mechanical concerns I'd like to resolve before I put any more money into this machine.

>The screen has about 15 mm free play when it's in the up position.
With the 520 series this was a symptom of failing hinge attachements.
Should I worry about the Lombards hinges?
Has anyone else noticed this looseness in their Lombard?

>something on the right hand side is making a high pitched whistle when the machine is asleep.
The pitch of the whistle changes when I unplug the charger but not when I remove the battery. Is this the sound of a power management board failing?
Interestingly enough the noise went away for a bit about the time the black brick charger failed.
I took the charger apart and found that one of the solder connections holding the power cord socket to the board had loosened enough to burn (scorch marks and soot). Possibly repairable presuming nothing else was fried. I had a spare charger so I didn't bother.

Thanks
