Same with AP here. I have a AL BP 800 FW that I upgraded to Tiger.
Was running Panther 10.3.9 and now I get sporadic bars in the menu
bar for reception. I can't tell if the reception is actually less or
just the indicator is messed up. I am also using an Express as a
remote base station upstairs with the AP base station in the
basement. I worked on the Express and base station settings and
changed the channel to 11 on both. Does not seem to help or hurt.

I will be looking for Apple to come out with 10.4.1 soon.

There are at least 2 of us waiting and I hope 10.4.1 will also address the automatic connection to the network at start and restart.

Greetings, Andre.
