i have two ram slots, i can put 256 in both max.,

Yup.

the lower slot should be "low profile" DIMM,

Yup.

i should use SDRAM memory of 100Mhz or greater "PC 100", and use ram with
2-2-2 speed...

You got me there, with the 2-2-2 stuff.

oh yeah, one more question, if i use only one 256 card does it matter what
the
other one is and which slot it goes into?

Nope so long as it fits !

1) All current SODIMMs are "low profile"; will fit in either the upper or
lower slot,

2) the machine is not sensitive to the refresh parameters (2-2-2.
etcetera) unless it cannot make sense of the EPROM on the SODIMM; but
most folks prefer 2-2-2, even though its unproved what the advantages of
2-2-2 are, over, say, 2-2-3,

3) the machine was designed for PC66 SODIMMs, and it may also like PC100
SODIMMs, however,

4) many PC133 SODIMMs which are 256 MB will be read as only 128 MB on the
Wallstreet (any 1998 PB) and Lombard (1999), but will be read correctly
as 256 MB on the Pismo (2000).

The Pismo doc states specifically that this model requires a different
SODIMM specification than the earlier machines (1998 and 1999, e.g.).

I believe the difference is inherent in the 2000's memory controller and
bus architecture, as the 2000 has a 100 MHz bus, where as the 1998 has a
66 (WSI and WSII) or 83 MHz (some WSIs, only) bus, depending upon the
model, and the 1999 has a 66 MHz bus.

I have tried two different manufacturers and three different units of
PC133 SODIMMs in 1998, 1999 and 2000 "G3 Series" PBs, and my tests
confirm these facts.

If you buy a PC133 SODIMM, be sure you have a return option as it most
likely will read as one-half capacity on a 1998 and 1999, but will read
as full capacity on a 2000.

It's been at least two years ... perhaps three or four ... since 256 MB
SODIMMs which were specifically compatible with the 1998 and 1999 PBs
were made.

Since there are no more PC66 or PC100 SODIMMs in the manufacturer's
pipeline, you're going to have to depend upon a dealer's NOS units, or
used units.
