I have never used a 17" Powerbook, but there is a great difference between
my 12" iBook and my 12" Powerbook, with the Powerbook having about half the
range of the iBook.

Considering the 17" is massive compared to the 12" I would expect it to have
quite a bit of antenna wire in the lid, thus the range.
