I've been setting up a 400 MHz Lombard for my sister and have noticed a disturbing problem.
It was running OS 9.2.2 with 320 Mb of RAM.
The L2 cache chip failed 6 months ago (The freeze on restart problem is recent). The freeze happens on restart but if I shut down and then start up all is well.
Booting from the 9.0.4 CD makes no difference.
I deleted the system folder and installed OS 9.0.4 from CD but still have the same problem.

Do I have a hardware problem?
Any suggestions as to what may have failed?

technology is the answer, what was the question?
