I refuse to admit that I'm getting too old to make out material on a website. :) I know this is a longshot--does the drive do what you want on another machine? MacWorld UK had an article recently about problems with FW drives, especially some that wouldn't act as boot devices. I wonder if this would cause other usage problems.
