Is there any way to repair it? Or should I just toss the drive and

I tend to replace the mechanism, never tried to repair them.

are the units just standard "Laptop IDE"?

I saw the connector on the back, and it seemed to be the same connector as on the back of the slot loading drive I pulled from a G4 Cube, but I'm unfamiliar with that formfactor.
