Opening up my beige G3 to over clock it a few weeks ago has probably set me
on a course that will lead to all sorts of fun tinkering... Currently, I am
enthralled by the internal connectors on the AV personality card.
According to TIL article n24235
<http://til.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/n24235>, there are connectors
for the Apple TV/FM Tuner and the Front Control Panel module (like those
used in Performas that have an IR reciever, volume controls, and headphone
jacks). Now, Takashi Imai (I think it was him) has already done some
tinkering and found a way to use the TV tuner (not the TV/FM tuner) with
this machine using the internal connector and the S-video in port. You
should be able to view his work at the following URL somewhere

it works since the firewall here at work blocks all acces to bekkoame.ne.jp
(and most other .jp adresses too) because it thinks there's lots of porn
there (go figure). Anyway, it might take a little hunting around, but I
found it once at home.
Anyway, the reason I post all this is to ask if anyone has done any
tinkering of their own. So, has anyone done anything like this?
I'm thinking about setting up the TV tuner with the AV card but was also
thinking about going a few steps further than Takashi. His setup requires
the use of a PCI slot (I don't have a free one). I was thinking of removing
the modem slot cover and running some cables through that to an external "TV
Breakout Box" and going the extra distance to make the Front Control Panel
module (I have an extra from a Performa 630) work as well... Sounds like
fun... what do you all think? Am I crazy or do you all think it's worth the
time and $100 or so I'd have to put into it?
