Hello listers:
I finally bought my first G4 (new). It will replace the Performa 6300. We
hope to continue using our old UMAX Astra 2400S which has a SCSI-2
interface, but I know there have been problems with G4s and some SCSI
scanners.
Considering two Adaptec cards, the 2906 (non-bootable) Fast SCSI-2 and the
PowerDomain 2930U Ultra SCSI, is there a track record which tells us that
one is less troublesome than the other with scanners? Are there other cards
that are running better with scanners?
In looking at knowledge bases in various web sites, I notice Adaptec claims
to have resolved the "deep sleep" problem for both these cards but is still
working on driver updates for their other SCSI cards. The Apple TIL #58451
says that OS 9 resolved the problem. UMAX does not address any situation
involving the G4 specifically.
