According to TIL (and my memory), the blue g3 takes DIMMs with 
between four and sixteen devices (chips), with none having a density 
higher than 128Mb.  This is why the max RAM for a Blue G3 is 1gig, 
not 2gig - 512MB DIMMs would need 16x256Mb.  Anyway, if the RAM in 
your 256MB has only eight devices/chips, it might be the same problem.
