If you have a Rev.2 logic board, or an IDE ATA/100 controller, I can recommend the 60GXP drive as fast, quiet and relatively cheap per MB. Don't know anything about the Quantum, or other drives like the Maxtor. Chris H P.S. Re. upgrading RAM in the Yosemite (or the Beige G3, for that matter), it's a good idea to get PC133, as others have said, in that it'll be forward compatible; I've installed it in both Beige G3's and Yosemites and have had no compatibility problems; be sure to buy from dealers who offer lifetime warranties. P.P.S. Re. IDE controllers, both Sonnet and VST make an ATA/66 card, priced around $90, though that should drop considerably now that ATA/100 cards are out. I've used the VST in a Yosemite, a Beige G3 and a PCI 9500 with little trouble, though I have been having weird open firmware oddities of late on my G4-upgraded Yosemite with VST card (haven't identified the problem yet, though it appears to be related to the Metabox G4 Zif). Lots of good reports on both cards at xlr8yourmac.com, though one thing to remember is that VST still doesn't offer OS X compatibility (Sonnet apparently does). Go to www.barefeats.com to see some test results; the VST card in a Yosemite and/or Yikes G4 offered outstanding speed results in a 2-drive raid array. All things considered, though, I'd look for a discount-priced Sonnet ATA/66 as the best all-around buy. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
