hello chris,

we have demon adsl running @ 512k (256 upload) in the uk and it's normally
very good.

the biggest thing to look out for seems to be the contention ratios - we
were quoted 20/1 (one socket with a potential 20 users at any one time) and
the first few months were great! however, there has obviously been some more
users plugged into the pipe because speeds during busy times (6-9 mornings,
lunch time and 5-7 evening) the connection speed drops loads. also fridays
are terrible.

i've had contention's of 50/1 and 100/1 offered by BT in this country for
home user's, dependant on area and demand so i'd check this out on the
service your being offered. also, although we get our router and isp support
from demon we are at the total mercy of BT for the actual pipe - this means
if BT decides to do some work in the exchange and the services screws up,
demon just puts it's hands in the air and blames them - not good for us!

having worked in an office with isdn shared across 5 users and an adsl line
across three, adsl hits the spot - mainly because it's on all the time and
costs so much less.

hope this helps,

jake
