They told me they were upgrading my replacement drive to a better model, since my
original model was still back-ordered and they didn't want to make me wait. Never
requsted it, they just offerred.
I am returning the drive! That's part of the agreement with Maxtor (as with Iomega &
etc). If you wish a replacement in advance of your return you must give them a credit
card #...just in case you
don't return the item. My 'bad' drive's been bubble-wrapped and packaged since July,
just waiting for their shipment and shiopping instructions.
As far as dropping money around me...I once found a $20 bill outside my bank and
although no one was around I still trottted it back in to the tellers. They were
shocked. Done that more than twice.
