Hi all. I'm still getting used to my new (to me) B&W, so please bear with
me.

Here's the situation: my G3 is a rev. A, with the usual IDE issues. Because
of this, I'd like to install a PCI IDE card. However, as this marks my first
foray into the world of controller cards (and IDE in general), I really have
no idea what I'm doing. Courtesy my local forsale newsgroups, I have found
someone with a Promise Ultra-66 controller card for sale, but I have no idea
if I can use it or not. According to Promise's website (www.promise.com
<http://www.promise.com> - look under products), the card is Windows-only,
but that may just be chauvinism on their part, because elsewhere on the site
(http://www.promise.com/PressRoom/News/VSTMacraid.htm) and on VST's site
(http://www.vsttech.com/vst/products.nsf/6eef6c4c909e433585256889004d8305/82
2d45da158f38bb8525692000428787?OpenDocument - sorry about that one), it
looks like the very same card is being used with (and without) VST's
SoftRAID software (which I already own).

So, does anybody know anything about this? Are these in fact the same card?
Can I buy a Windows-intended card and use it in my Mac? Do I need a
Mac-capable card? Are there ROM-flashing steps I can take? Essentially, what
do I need to know about IDE controller cards to make an informed decision?

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. It is greatly appreciated.

Mitch.
