VOLUME, VOLUME, VOLUME. that's why pc cards are cheaper. allot more
are sold and allot more companies are competing.

some cards work in a pc or mac, you just need mac drivers or in some
cases you can flash a pc card to the mac equivalent, some cards can't be
reoriented this way but some of the video cards can. i would definitely
search the web for both reviews of cards and info on if it's flashable.
some cards are basically the same, but may have too small an eeprom on
the pc version to flash to the mac version, there may be other subtle
differences but that's usually it. i know the adaptec scsi cards made
for pc users generally can't be flashed to the mac version because of
the eeprom size, or so adaptec says, and the flash "updates" are bigger
for the mac version than for the pc version so it probably is true, at
least in this case. i can tell you, after extensive testing of my
quantum and maxtor drive that at 7200 rpm neither can keep an ata66 bus
completely busy, although they are close, so if you're not going to be
buying 10k rpm drives i wouldn't spend more for an ata100 card unless it
was very nearly the same price as an ata66 card. it's also my
understanding that ata raid setups are risky at best, apparently you
need the robustness of scsi to data stripe reliably. most of the newer
cards have 2 channels so you can add up to 4 drives on them. definitely
check reviews if you're considering a raid setup.
