Hi all.
Actually, I'm doing this storage upgrade for a friend who, like me, has a
B&W G3. But whereas I have a Rev.2 IDE chip, she has a Rev.1. So thank
you all for pointing me in the right direction (www.xlr8yourmac.com) to
discover all the details and idiosycrasies of the B&W.
I just bought her a Sonnet ATA66 (the Sonnet ATA100 is unavailable short
term) and a Maxtor (nee Quantum Fireball) HD. I figured it was six of one
versus half a dozen of the other between that and the IBM. Hopefully,
this configuration with spare my friend the frequent crashes that have
been bedeviling her for years now.
Apparently, the B&W bus speed is 100 megaherz so it will take full
advantage of the new ATA100 drives and the new Sonnet IDE card. This is
good for those of you who can wait.
Many thanks for your collective input, experience, and wisdom.
