PPPoE simply means that the PPP connection, which is itself conducted using 
the TCP/IP protocol, is being done over Ethernet, not dial.

With a router, such as my Linksys, the router handles the PPPoE connection 
idiosyncrasies, and the Macs all see a TCP/IP connection, therough the switch 
portion of the router.
