Greetings list, My DSL is down. I'm with DirecTV DSL (they bought Telocity) and their last mile provider, Rhythms, went belly up. DirecTV has contracted with Ameritech for last mile. In the mean time I wait for the switch to occur and suffer with dialup, which wouldn't be so bad, but I had our DSL shared between 6 Macs via my ethernet LAN using IPNRouter on a 7100. For the moment we all crowd around (fight over ;^) one iMac.
On to my reason for posting. DirecTV says they are switching from TCP/IP to PPPoE. Is this good, bad or pretty much the same? I thought TCP/IP was a better internet protocol. Unfortunately I know just enough to be dangerous so I don't fully understand all the technologies let alone remember all the acronyms. Any insightful info you can give me will be most appreciated.
