definitely try resetting the pram, and if that doesn't work your memory
may have dirty contacts, which are easy to clean with a clean pencil
eraser, then you blow off the eraser dust.  i've had to do this with
several machines.  also check the drive and other cables to make sure
they haven't magically loosened themselves.  i'd also try turning off
vm, it can cause problems, especially if the drive is having problems. 
definitely test the drive as well as the ram.  you might also need to
reinstall the software, some software does odd things when moved around
or when the os changes.  a desktop rebuild might also help, but i doubt
it (but it's free to try).
