For starters, what kinda G4 do you have? I think the 24x cd-rws came out on
the last revision of the Quicksilver (starting with the 733/867/800's) but I
could be wrong there. I have the newest 800 and mine has a 24x..

I dont think the disc rating really matters that much.
Like you, I got two of the Verbatim 16x with my G4 and they burned just fine
at 24x.
CD-RW's however do matter.. If you have a 10x RW drive, and only put in a
disc rated at 4x, then it will only let you burn at 4x..
I had to go buy all new RW's just to finally use them at 10x..
Now RW's are actually useful to me since it doesnt take 20 minutes to burn
em now hehe..

As for Disc Burner, if youre just archiving it should do just fine for you.
I dont remember exactly the steps to use it but Im sure someone else here
can walk you through that.
The burners in Macs are as far as I know Sony and have been.
In the Apple System Profiler it should tell you what kind of drive you have.
Mine is a Sony CRX-170E. I read somewhere that the Apple drives dont have
the burn proof that real Sonys do but um.. Toast tells me differently..
