Greetings, all. You know, I gotta say ... I'm so impressed with this G3. Perhaps that's because of how I got around to it. My first Mac was a G4 Cube because I'm such a NeXT fan, and I just HAD to buy a Cube to match my prize NeXTcube. Then I started snatching up compacts - I have a few Plusses, an SE, and an SE/30. Then I found out that OS X Server v1 (Rhapsody) was essentially NextStep for PPC, so I wanted a machine to run that -- my Beige G3 tower.
I wanted to skip over all of the craziness of the early-to-mid 90s, but I can't afford the newer G4s -- and decided to go with the Beige instead of B&W. This Gossamer is a really nice machine! Makes me wonder who was CEO of Apple when it was built. It was Steve, right? That is, this isn't an "Amelio Special" is it? It sure doesn't look like one inside. Where can I learn all the details about my machine, such as what I can plug into the PERCH slot, and what the implications are of this New/Old World thing (other than the MacOS ROM bit)? I might also be interested in putting USB and/or FireWire PCI cards into the machine -- I wonder if OS X Server 1.2 supports them. Now to start playing!
