Not so in my experience!  I've installed a USB PCI card in my Gossamer G3 DT
and a USB PC card in my Wallstreet PB G3 (both running MacOS 8.6) and both
work just fine to download pictures from my Olympus C-2020, E-10, and D-40
digicams.  I've never had an error message or screwed-up photo file.  Of
course, I installed the latest USB drivers (1.4?) from Apple - that may be
the difference.
